Beginners Courses
We run a variety of courses for beginners throughout the year. Details of our most regular courses are below - please also check our Club News page and social media channels for information about new and upcoming courses.
Winter Season (October to March)
The club runs pool sessions in Hazel Grove over the winter months. These are ideal for beginners and very popular. Please visit the Pool Sessions page for details and to book on.
Some sessions are open to members only. If you join the club after 16th November, your membership will run to the end of the following year so you effectively get free membership for the last few weeks of the current year.
We do not generally take beginners on-site during the Autumn and Winter months as we are unable to provide a safe learning environment due to water conditions and weather. You are still welcome to contact us if you would like to arrange a site tour, but please be aware that opportunities may be more limited than in the summer months.
Summer Season (April to September)
This is the ideal time to start as a beginner at the club, as weather conditions, daylight hours and water levels are more favourable. We have several options for new paddlers over the summer months:
- Slalom Start Course - This popular 12-week course takes young paddlers from total beginners to competing in Div 3/4 slalom races. (NOTE: Currently closed for bookings, but follow the link for more information and to join the waiting list for next year).
- Taster Sessions - We run regular Sunday morning taster sessions to give you a taste of what paddling at MCC is like. (NOTE: Currently closed for bookings, but follow the link for more information and to join the waiting list for next year).
- Open Sessions - If you are curious but not sure whether you want to get on the water yet, you are welcome to visit the site on a Sunday morning (10-12:30pm) and our Duty Officers will be happy to give you a tour of the site. Please contact us first as sessions are sometimes cancelled.
